West of Ordinary
A Modern Western Ranch Experience
West of Ordinary is for women drawn to the beauty, independence, and quiet confidence of life out West.
West of Ordinary
A Modern Western Ranch Experience for Women
Step into ranch life on working Colorado land in Buena Vista, set against the Collegiate Peaks. This is your opportunity to experience ranch life through the garden, kitchen, and barn. Learn something useful. Make something with your hands. Get a little dirt on your boots.
Seasonal Experiences.
Every West of Ordinary gathering is shaped by the season and what is happening around the ranch.
Morning Chores
Start where ranch days often do. Feed the chickens, gather fresh eggs, and learn the simple routines behind caring for a small flock.
Barn Hours
Time spent around the barn, animals, and working side of the ranch. Barn Hours changes with the day and season, offering a closer look at what it takes to care for the land and the animals that live here.
Horse Sense
An approachable introduction to being around horses. Learn the basics of grooming, leading, care, body language, and how to move confidently and respectfully around a horse.
Good Dirt
Get your hands into the kitchen garden. Explore raised-bed growing, soil, planting, harvesting, and the practical details behind growing food and flowers.
Daily Bread
Flour, water, salt, time. Learn the fundamentals of sourdough while mixing, shaping, and working with dough by hand. Less about perfection and more about understanding a skill worth carrying home.
Make Your Mark
A modern take on Western craft. Seasonal projects may include custom hat plumes, indigo-dyed tea cloths, and other pieces inspired by the colors, textures, and character of the West.
Gathered
Flowers, herbs, and whatever the season is giving us. Walk the growing areas, gather from the garden, and turn what is in bloom or ready for harvest into something to take home or bring to the table.
Field Notes
A closer look at what is growing, changing, and happening around the ranch. Field Notes may explore gardening, seed starting, seasonal growing, herbs, flowers, natural materials, or practical skills connected to the land.
Wild & Useful
Old skills with a place in modern life. Learn approachable ways to preserve and use what is grown locally through seasonal workshops such as pickling, jams, jellies, and other time-honored kitchen traditions.
Supper Out West
The day ends where it should: around the table. A beautiful farm-to-table meal brings the experience together with seasonal ingredients, thoughtful food, and the simple pleasure of sitting down together after a day spent doing something real.
A Little Grit. A Little Grace.
West of Ordinary lives in the contrast.
Dirt under your nails and a beautifully set table.
Fresh eggs and good linen.
Working with your hands and making something worth keeping.
A little grit, a little grace, West of Ordinary at Vista Meadows Ranch is an elevated way to experience the West.
